Many of my friends tell me they get very overwhelmed buying wine and they are uncomfortable asking questions. I feel your pain. The best way to overcome this is to find a reputable store where you can get to know the people that work there. Start a wine relationship, let them know the wines you enjoy and work together to broaden your wine horizons. There are many beautiful wines out there at reasonable price points. Don’t be guided by big name wineries or large corporate brands. Don’t be influenced by scores from wine publications. Lots of European wines tend to be priced lower than American wines and they are equally amazing. I have found some of my favorite wines from little producers or small family run wineries because of the wine relationships I have had at some stellar wine shops. Be open and allow them to advise you and will be find the world of wine isn’t so overwhelming.
