minutesWe are big fans of oatmeal in our house. I like Bob’s Red Mill Rolled Oats but Quaker Oats work as well as i grew up eating Quaker products. I make my oatmeal in large amounts and then the kids reheat it and add hot milk with brown sugar. I use dried cranberries because my daughter doesn’t care for raisins. Sometimes I also add other dried fruit I may have lingering about. I always add a touch of cinnamon and ginger.
Ingredients
2 cups Rolled Oats or Old Fashion Oats
3 1/2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/3 cup dried cranberries or raisins
Brown Sugar
Hot Milk
Directions
- In a pot, combine the oats with water, dried fruit, cinnamon and ginger. Bring to a rolling boil and stir well. Reduce heat to medium low and allow to simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let sit for a few minutes.
- Serve in bowls with a sprinkling of brown sugar and pour a little hot milk on top.
- For the extra bowls of oatmeal, do not add milk or sugar. Allow to cool and cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate.
- Reheat in the microwave and add sugar and hot milk. Stir well and serve.
