minutesI love broccoli and it is so healthy. My kids like it as well. My favorite way to prepare it is by steaming. It is easy, delicious and doesn’t remove all the nutrition from the vegetable. Just rinse, trim and steam. You can add bay leaf and peppercorns to the water to add extra flavor or arrange the lemon slices and garlic around the broccoli.
Ingredients
1 lb brocoli, trimmed and rinsed
Sliced lemon, optional
3 garlic cloves, smashed
Directions
- In a pasta pot with a steamer basket, add water that comes up about 2 inches. Do not put the steamer basket in yet, set it aside with the broccoli . Place the sliced lemon and garlic down around the broccoli.
- Place the pot on the stove with the lid and heat over medium heat until beginning to steam and simmer.
- Once the water in simmering. remove the lid and place the steamer basket with the broccoli above the water. Return the lid to the pot and turn the heat down to low.
- Cook 3-5 minutes. The broccoli should retain its color but be tender to poke with a fork.
- Serve in a bowl tossed with olive oil and finishing salt.
