My dog became quite ill and our amazing vet had me change up his diet so now I poach chicken for him as well as steam carrots. I poach boneless, skinless chicken breasts in cold water covering the meat and bring to a simmer, then simmer it for about 15-20 minutes. I make sure the chicken is the right temperature, 165 and then remove it to a plate to cool. I allow the liquid to cool and then place it in an air tight container, where I use it to mix his food in the am and pm. I also save some of the carrot steaming liquid and mix some of that in as well, so many nutrients in both liquids for the dogs.

Peanut butter in very small doses, used as a treat, is something dogs love, but a little goes along way. I use it when having to give my dog medication. Cheddar cheese is another trick I use when it comes to getting a dog to swallow a pill.
