Travel and dining are my favorites things to do – I love to travel and have traveled all over the world. My list keeps getting longer. Some places that are high on my list: Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Morocco, Argentina, Chile, and Hong Kong. Having traveled all over the world, solo, with friends and my husband, I like to eat well. It doesn’t always have to be a 5 star restaurant as I really do appreciate the small, family run places where you get to know the people.
Whether You are dining at a Michelin restaurant or a small local, family run place, it is important to show respect by dressing appropriately. I don’t mean you must dress fancy all the time but it is respectable, especially when traveling to walk into a dining establishment looking clean and dresses nicely.
Traveling and Dining
Travel can leave clothes wrinkled from the suitcase, but looking neat and presentable is what matters. Dressing respectfully is key—whether you’re dining at a restaurant, visiting a museum, taking a walking tour, or trying to get a reservation.
When dining out while traveling—whether solo or with my husband—I’ve found that if online reservation platforms aren’t showing availability, stopping by the restaurant in person can make all the difference. Many places are more flexible than they appear online, especially if you’re willing to sit at the bar or dine during off-peak hours. Flexibility goes both ways—if a restaurant is making an effort to accommodate you, it’s worth being equally adaptable.
I’ve even planned entire trips around dining at a specific restaurant. One of the best parts of travel is the chance to discover new flavors and culinary experiences. I explore local grocery stores, bakeries, and farmers markets—and always ask locals where to eat, what to see, and how to experience a place like a native.
Explore, eat and keep a journal. I love to look back at meals or restaurants I can recommend to friends traveling. I love visiting museums, churches, walking tours, food tours, as there is so much to be learned.
