Cranberry Bourbon Fig Relish

minutesThis was out of this world and so good with turkey but even better with game meats and/or pork. A perfect accompaniment to any dish.
Ingredients
1/2 cup Bourbon
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 cinnamon sticks
2 whole star anise
1/2 inch piece of ginger, not peeled, sliced like coins
7 oz (1 heaping cup) chopped dried figs
12 oz bag fresh cranberries, picked over and wrinkled ones tossed
Directions
- Bring bourbon, water, brown sugar and vinegar to a boil in a 2 quart saucepan. Add cinnamon, star anise, ginger, dried figs, and cranberries. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes until berries burst and sauce thickens. Cool for 15 minutes in saucepan and remove to a sealed container and refrigerate until ready to use. Can be made 1 week ahead.
